Dear Parents and Carers,
Chatsworth annual litter pick
The ECO team had fun litter picking on Tuesday morning as part of the annual Chatsworth litter pick. We walked a good three miles during the morning and took a route from the estate office to Baslow, collecting two bin bags full of rubbish on our way. The team did so well and it was great to see them taking part in such a good cause to keep our local environment free of litter and looking tidy.
Lyceum theatre trip
Yesterday, we took all our junior children to the Lyceum theatre in Sheffield to see 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'. It was a poignant, thought provoking and very clever piece of theatre and the children were enthralled throughout the show. Our Y5s and Y6s have recently read the book so it was a fabulous experience for them to see this being brought to life through theatre. As always, it was a pleasure to take the children out on their trip and they were a credit to our school.
World Book Day
What a brilliant atmosphere it has been in school today to celebrate World Book Day! The creativity of the children's costumes was amazing and they've taken part in some lovely book related activities during the day. Thank you for all your support with making today really memorable and special for the children! Next Friday (15th March), we have arranged for a travelling book fair to visit school at 3.15pm (flyer attached) so do come along after school and see what's on offer. All books are reasonably priced at £2.50 each.

Ashgate Hospice TractorFest 2024
From mini tractor driving to antique tractors on display, a family fun day is returning to Derbyshire this spring – and kids can attend for FREE!
Tractor Fest will take place on Sunday 28th April from 10am until 3pm at the Storforth Lane Trading Estate in Hasland, Chesterfield.
There will be a huge collection of tractors on display as well as fun activities, including mini fire engine rides, soft play, a climbing wall and more.
The event, which is organised by Ashgate Hospice, costs £3 for adults and is free for children under the age of 11.
Jack Wood, Deputy Director of Income Generation at Ashgate Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be bringing Tractor Fest back to Chesterfield this April.
“Last year was a huge success and we were proud to welcome so many families from across Derbyshire.”
All proceeds from Tractor Fest will help fund vital care for patients and families who need the care of the hospice.
The charity must raise £9 million each year so it can continue providing palliative and end of life care to people across North Derbyshire.
Any owners of tractors or other farming vehicles who would like to showcase their vehicles are invited to contact the hospice directly to arrange this.
To book your tickets to Ashgate Hospice’s Tractor Fest head to www.ashgatehospice.org.uk/tractor-fest
Alternatively, supporters can contact the hospice’s fundraising team on events@ashgatehospice.org.uk or by calling 01246 567250.
Wishing you a lovely weekend and thank you, as always, for your ongoing support,

The ECO team had a busy morning today joining in with the annual litter pick at Chatsworth. We started the morning with bacon sandwiches and then got to work! We collected two bin bags full of litter over the 2 hours we were out walking so the team did a great job! Well done everyone :)
Dear Parents and Carers,
We've been delighted to welcome two new families into our school this week. Florence has joined us in Y3 and has settled in extremely well. Romeo and Harvey have joined us in Y5 and Y2 respectively and it has been a real pleasure to see how well they have settled into life at Pilsley in such a short time. I'm sure you will join us in welcoming both families into our school community and it's great to see the children getting on so well and making new friends.
Please find a letter attached to this email regarding the NSPCC's Speak out, stay safe programme which we will be delivering in school over the next couple of weeks to children in Y1-Y6.
For those families who went to Young Voices last week, you can access the YV2024 concert video by visiting
A reminder that we are celebrating World Book day next Friday (letter attached with more details). Each child need to bring in a large potato next Friday please!
On Friday 15th March, it is Comic Relief so we will be having a non-uniform day. More details to follow!

We were delighted to receive a letter in the post this morning from Damian Hinds MP, who is the Minister for Schools. It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of all our children and their hardworking attitudes as well as all our staff who work so hard to achieve the very best outcomes for our children. To be placed in the top 1% of primary schools in the country is a real team effort from parents, children, staff and governors and we are incredibly proud of what we've achieved so far and we will continuously strive to ensure our children leave primary school at the end of Y6 both happy and well equipped for secondary school.
Young Voices
During half term, Mrs Bond, Mrs Townsend and Mrs Dey took our Young Voices choir to Sheffield Arena to perform in the largest children's choir in the world! We all had the best time and it was great to see the children enjoying themselves so much!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find a letter attached to this email regarding World Book Day which we are celebrating on Friday 8th March.
The children really enjoyed tuck shop yesterday breaktime! Thank you to Bex Vardy for sponsoring this month and if you would like to sponsor a tuck shop this year, please speak to a member of the PTA.
Just a reminder that jewellery is not permitted to be worn for school, as part of our uniform policy. We do allow small stud earrings to be worn for those children who have had their ears pierced but earrings either need to be removed or covered with plasters or tape, which are supplied from home, for PE lessons. The children have all been reminded this week about not wearing jewellery or nail varnish for school but your support with this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
All children going to Young Voices need to meet outside school on the village green on Monday 19th February at 1.25pm please. We will take the Young Voices t-shirts with us on the bus so if the children could wear dark trousers/leggings and trainers with their Pilsley school hoody or jumper, that would be great. A reminder that the children will need to have had their lunch before they meet at school and please remember to send a drink and a packed tea with them in a named bag.
We hope you have a great half term and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 26th February 2024.
All best wishes,
Mrs E Bond

Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you so much for supplying the oranges for our Christingle service yesterday. There are photographs on the website for you to see and the PRAISE team did a fabulous job of leading the service for us. Our nursery children joined us too and really loved the singing!
A separate email was sent out yesterday to all our families who are attending the Young Voices concert in Sheffield next Thursday. A reminder that if you have any questions about the event, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
The NSPCC have asked us to share this with you.
We are happy to be able to share our FREE workshop for parents and carers about keeping children safe when gaming
This year, the NSPCC launches its first Game Safe Festival. We're bringing together key players to make sure children have positive gaming experiences. And we're helping the adults in their lives have the knowledge, confidence and tools they need to help keep children safe when they game.
The free workshop will take place on Zoom on Wednesday 7 February 2024, 7-8pm. The attached flyer provides information about the session and how to register for it.
Wishing you a lovely weekend,

We shared a lovely Christingle service on Thursday morning. The PRAISE team lead the service confidently and shared the meaning behind the Christingle. All the children sang beautifully and it was a pleasure to share this moment together.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Christingle
On Thursday 1st February, the children on the PRAISE Team and some of our Y6s will be leading a Christingle collective worship. Unfortunately, we're unable to use the church on this occasion so we're going to have a little service in school instead. We will put some photographs on the school website for you to see as sadly, we don't have enough room in the hall to invite all our parents along. In preparation for Christingle making, please can you send your child into school with a large orange on Monday 30th January as they will make their Christingle at some point that week and bring it home afterwards.
Class 3 clarinet recital
Just a reminder that Y3/Y4 parents and carers are very welcome to come into school on Monday 22nd January at 2.30pm for the clarinet recital. It's due to start at 2.40pm so please arrive from 2.30pm.
