  • Visit by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire

    Wed 29 Jun 2016
We were delighted to welcome the Duke and Duchess into school on Wednesday. They were both welcomed into school by our Head Girl and Head Boy and an afternoon tea was served in the hall by the children. They then watched a special collective worship based on all the ECO work we have been doing towards our Green Flag. The Duke and Duchess were then taken up to the garden by our ECO committee and the children talked about our mechanisms for recycling waste, bee friendly plants as well as their choices of planting for the different seasons throughout the year.
  • Empty Classroom Day

    Fri 17 Jun 2016
Today was 'National Empty Classroom Day'! Despite the wet weather, the whole school ventured off to the woods for some fun outdoor activities. Class 3 made some great Troll houses!
  • ECO Schools- We have achieved our next Green Flag!

    Fri 17 Jun 2016
We are delighted to have had an extremely successful ECO Schools inspection yesterday and have been awarded our next Green Flag! The children have all worked incredibly hard towards this, particularly our ECO captains, Charlie and Lawrence and members of the ECO committee. The inspector reported that systems are deeply embedded into all areas of the curriculum as well as in daily school life and she was particularly impressed with the way in which the older children work with the younger children. The children were also able to talk freely about what they had been learning and why that impacts on their own lives and the world around them. Mrs Field and Mrs Dowding have worked enormously hard towards this and our thanks go to them and all the children for showcasing our school in such a positive way.
  • Fun at the Dukes Barn Climbing Wall

    Fri 10 Jun 2016
This afternoon, we enjoyed a thrilling indoor climbing experience at Dukes Barn. The children took part in bouldering, climbing to the top of the wall whilst their friends were belaying them as well as a high wire activity! We are extremely grateful to Dukes Barn for providing the children with such a wonderful experience. We look forward to another group taking their turn next week!
  • Lily-Anna's riding success!

    Tue 07 Jun 2016

On Sunday 5th June, I competed on my pony Lulu, in the National Schools Equestrian Association Dressage competition for Pilsley School. We went to Beaver Hall in Staffordshire. Lulu and I had never done dressage together before and she was a very good girl. She can get really strong and a bit naughty sometimes but she was very calm and relaxed which was a good thing! We got between 6 and 7 out of 10 for each movement and my overall mark was 155 which was 64.58%. That was only 7 marks less than the winners and I was the youngest in the class, competing against girls who were 18 years old riding big horses!

The judge wrote that Lulu was a 'lovely pony with much potential' which was nice to read on my mark sheet. I really enjoyed the experience, riding a dressage test and representing Pilsley school. We are looking forward to competing in more NSEA dressage and jumping classes in the future.
