This half term we will be learning through the Cornerstones imaginative learning project:
‘Are We There Yet?’
This project will focus on journeys and transport. The children will be encouraged to think about journeys they have made, how we get around and ways to keep safe while on the move. We will be looking at maps and plans to find out where we are on the globe and designing our own fantasy vehicles. Each week we will focus our learning around a text linked to a different mode of transportation.
Week 1 – Settling in
Week 2– Walking (Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins)
Week 3 – Road Journeys (Duck in a truck/Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car)
Week 4 – Train journeys (The train Ride)
Week 5 – Journeys by Air (Amazing Aeroplanes)
Week 6 – Space travel (Whatever Next by Jill Murphy)
Week 7. - Boat journeys (Mr Gumpy’s Outing by John Burningham)
Week 8 – Are we there yet? – celebration week.
It would be fantastic if you could take the opportunity to look at other stories and non-fiction books related to transport at home to widen their understanding.
