    Dear Parents and Carers,

Just a further reminder that the junior children will need to be collected from the Cavendish Hall this afternoon after their show rehearsal. Please collect infant children from school first and then any juniors afterwards. The school bus children will be collected from the Cavendish hall.

    Sports Day

Thank you to all those who were able to join us for Sports day on Wednesday afternoon. The event was a great success, and the children were all brilliant! We received lots of lovely comments from people about the high levels of sportsmanship on display as well as a healthy competitive spirit too! The children's behaviour was excellent throughout and the way in which they supported and encouraged one another was real testament to how our school values are 'lived out' within our community.

Our House winners this year were Hartington with Devonshire only one point behind them as 'runners up'. The 'Sportsmanship' trophy was awarded to Cavendish this year -well done everybody!

Appointment of new Learning Support Assistant

I'm delighted to say that following an interview process this week, Mrs Allinson was appointed to the role of Learning Support Assistant in the infant class from September. Mrs Allinson currently works as a mid-day supervisor and also runs our gardening club. She is a popular member of our staff team already and we are very much looking forward to supporting her in her new role. Mrs Allinson will also continue to work as a mid-day supervisor for three days per week.

Miss Fowles will be leaving us at the end of this term, so we thank her for the work she has done since she joined us in February, and we send her our best wishes for the future.

    Class information for September

I am now in a position to let you know who will be teaching in each class from September. As you know, Mrs Thompson will be beginning her maternity leave in October. We are interviewing in a couple of weeks for a maternity cover teacher and as soon as an appointment is made, we will share those details with you.

Mrs Anderson will move to teach the infant children in September and will increase her hours further once Mrs Thompson begins her maternity leave to work all day from Monday-Thursday. This will provide good continuity for our youngest children and ensure that there are no big changes for them part way through next term.

Mrs Thompson will primarily teach in Y3 and Y4 until she begins her maternity leave. This will be a good transition for the Y3s who will transition to the juniors with Mrs Thompson alongside them. Once we have appointed a maternity cover teacher, we will send out a revised timetable for the Y3s and Y4s with more information.

On Tuesday morning, the children will be taught in their new classes which they will be in in September. Our new Reception children will be joining us for the morning and the Y6s will be at Lady Manners for their transition day.

NEU Strike days- Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July

The National Education Union (NEU) has announced two further days of strike action next week on Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July.

Our school will remain open. However, as a large number of our staff are members of the NEU, strike action could result in your child being taught by a different teacher on Wednesday and Friday next week.

    PTA dog show

We are really excited that the PTA are holding their first dog show on the village green tomorrow! Please see the attached flyer for more details and we would love to see as many people there as possible. On behalf of the school, we would like to offer our thanks and gratitude to all the PTA members who are giving so much of their time to put on these fun events for our school community in order to raise much needed funds to enhance our educational offer to our children. Our thanks go to Bex Vardy for co-ordinating this particular event and for everyone who has offered to help out. Your support is very much appreciated.

    PE kits

As the children are spending all day in their PE kits on PE days, please be mindful that they are coming to school wearing shorts which are comfortable and not too short. The weather is set to become very warm next week so please make sure your child has their water bottle with them as well as a sunhat. We recommend that suncream is applied before school on sunny days to keep the children safe in the sunshine.

Y5 and Y6 Mount Cook residential

Miss Davison and Mrs Dowding are looking forward to taking Y5 and Y6 to Mount Cook from Wednesday-Friday next week for their residential visit. The children will be on zip wires, driving land Karts, completing a high ropes course, navigating the climbing wall as well as participating in many other activities during their stay. The children will need to be collected at 12.45pm from Mount Cook on Friday afternoon. We hope they all have a brilliant time and can't wait to hear all about it!

Wishing you a happy and sunny weekend,

  • The Queen's Green Canopy tree planting in Edensor

    Thu 08 Jun 2023

We were thrilled to be invited to help plant some oak trees in Edensor as part of the Queen's Green Canopy. The Queen's Green Canopy is a nationwide initiative set up by Kind Charles to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The trees were planted at the top of the village in Edensor and everyone is welcome to go and have a look. Lord and Lady Burlington helped the children to plant the trees and made the occasion a real celebration.

Welcome to our school website. We are a 3-11 year old school and have our own nursery. Please call to book a visit on 01246 583203
