At Pilsley, we are constantly looking for ways to adapt our practice in order to make greater gains for the children. Given the fact we are now teaching a new National Curriculum, we have decided to invest some money into buying a new scheme which runs across the school from Reception-Y6. The package we have bought is called ‘Cornerstones’.
‘Cornerstones’ works on the belief that children learn better when their interests and fascinations are allowed to flourish, where they are encouraged to explore subjects in a variety of ways and are viewed in terms of their strengths, not their weaknesses. ‘Cornerstones’ developed a four-stage teaching philosophy: Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express. Each stage provides opportunities for children to learn and respond in a variety of ways, keeping projects flexible and able to follow children’s interests and needs.
We are confident that the children will really enjoy learning through this approach and we are very much looking forward to teaching from it too!
It was wonderful to see so many children with their families joining us for breakfast in the hall this morning. The children were encouraged to serve their parents with drinks and toast which seemed to go down very well indeed! The Parent Forum followed and the following topics were discussed: 'What is the school doing well?' 'What can we do to improve further?' 'Spelling- a whole school approach' 'Ways forward for the PTA'. The forum was hugely positive with parents especially supportive of the staff and the school.
The minutes of the forum are published under the 'Newsletters' section of the website.
Parents, staff and children all enjoyed another wonderful family service today at St.Peter's church,Edensor. The blessing of the tiny lambs was carried out by Canon Dave with the expert assistance of Olivia and Annabelle! The children were all asked to think of apt names for the lambs before they were blessed and 'Snowy' and 'Fluffy' were chosen.
