    Dear Parents and Carers,

It was truly lovely to see so many of you at our Christmas service at Edensor church last Thursday. The children all did brilliantly and it was great to see them all singing, reading so beautifully and generally enjoying themselves! The present which the donkey kindly left behind wasn't quite so pleasant but it certainly proved to be a memorable moment for all those who were not so lucky enough to witness it!!

The staff always work hard to put these services/events together so a huge 'thank you' to them. Class 3 did an amazing job with their craft stall and will be deciding in the new year, how to spend, or possibly re-invest, the profit they have made. Thank you to the PTA for helping with the refreshments and to all those who baked for us- the mulled wine and mince pies were delicious and certainly proved to be very popular!

We all had fun at the pantomime yesterday afternoon and the children were all really well behaved. They particularly enjoyed an ice cream at the interval and Theo, Emily and Freddie were all excited to receive a birthday 'shout out' from the cast too!

Tomorrow, it's party day! The children need to come to school dressed in their party clothes please. The weather is set to be very stormy tomorrow but if we do go outside at playtime, the children will need to be wearing sensible footwear.

On behalf of everyone in school, may we wish you a happy and healthy Christmas and every good wish for the new year. Thank you for your continued kindness and support and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 8th January 2024.

    All best wishes,

    Fri 08 Dec 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you've all had a good week. It's certainly feeling like a busy run up to Christmas!

On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Townsend took a group of our Y5 and Y6 children carol singing at Chatsworth Farmshop. The children were fantastic and as you can imagine, took great delight in singing in public! Lots of the customers said how brilliant they were and they also collected £60 to help pay towards the transport costs for the Young Voices concert in February. Well done everybody! The children are singing at the farmshop again on the afternoon of Wednesday 20th December.

The Christmas bauble competition is being judged on Monday and the winners for each category will be announced at the church service on Thursday. Please make sure all your entries are in by Monday morning- thank you.

    Derbyshire Junior Choir

Derby and Derbyshire Music Partnership have started a new choir, which provides 'a haven for budding singers aged 7 to 14, offering a nurturing and exciting environment to explore the joys of harmonious melodies' for children across Derbyshire.

    Christmas service rehearsals in church

Next week, there are a couple of changes to our normal drop off and pick up arrangements as we are running two rehearsals in church for the Christmas service.

Monday 11th December- Drop off at Edensor church in the morning please (not school) at 8.45am

We will bring all the children back up to school in time for lunch

Normal collection from school at the end of the day

Wednesday 13th December-  Drop off at school as usual in the morning

We will take the children down to church after lunch for their rehearsal

Please collect from Edensor church at 3.15pm

*No after school club running today

Bus children and the 623 club bus will collect those children from church

Christmas service- Thursday 14th December- starts at 5pm

All the Infants and Class 3 children will need to arrive at church wearing their costumes please.

The church doors will open at 4.30pm on Thursday for you to bring the children in and take your seats. Mulled wine and mince pies will be served both before and after the service, for a small contribution. We'll also be having a raffle with lots of lovely prizes! The church does get very busy but there is standing room available at the back of church, should we need it.

Parking can be really difficult in Edensor so we suggest parking at the Cavendish Hall and walking over if you possibly can.

Class 3 have been busy working on an enterprise project recently. This has involved them applying for a loan from the PTA in order to invest some money into buying and sourcing materials to create some things to sell at the Christmas service. If they make a profit, they can decide how to spend it! There has been a real buzz around this particular project and we can't wait to see how they get on!

    Wishing you a lovely weekend,

    Mrs E Bond

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Goodbye to Illia

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Illia today as he makes his journey back to Ukraine this weekend to return to his family. Illia has made phenomenal progress with his English since starting at Pilsley eighteen months ago and he has relished all the opportunities which have been offered to him, whilst living here on the estate. We will all miss him dearly and hope that both him and his family stay safe, happy and well. Thank you to all those who contributed to Illia's memory book via his sponsor Claire, we really appreciate it and it will be a lovely thing for Illia to keep and to cherish his memories of living here in the UK.

    Visit from Sarah Dines, MP

The junior children met with Sarah Dines, MP this afternoon when she came to visit us and have a tour of the school. The children asked her lots of questions about her work and where she lived in London but the stories Sarah told about Larry the cat who lives at Number 10, really captured the children's interests more than anything else! We hope to arrange a visit to the Houses of Parliament in the near future.

    Infant trip on Monday

The infants are really looking forward to their day at Chatsworth on Monday. Please do ensure they are wrapped up warm as the weather looks set to stay cold. The children are going down to Chatsworth on the school bus and will be back at school in time for the end of the day.

    Christmas jumper day

A reminder that we are having a non-uniform day next Friday with a theme of 'Wear something Christmassy'. There will be an opportunity to make a donation for 'Save the Children' on Parent Pay, if you would like to.

    PTA disco

A reminder that the PTA Christmas disco takes place next Friday (8th December) at the Cavendish Hall. There is information attached to this email regarding the purchase of tickets.

  • Emergency school closure procedures

    Tue 28 Nov 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

As colder weather approaches, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of our emergency closure procedures as well as some alterations to our entrances into school in a morning if the weather is icy.

When the playground is deemed as being too icy for the children to cross safely first thing in a morning, we will be using the old nursery gate entrance which is situated at the front of school instead. A member of staff will be on the gate to greet the children as they come into school and the children will be directed through the downstairs classroom and up the stairs in order to make their way to their classroom. Parents are still very welcome to accompany the younger children into school when this entrance is being used.

Any decision to close school is taken in association with the Chair of Governors. In the event of an emergency school closure, you will be notified via the following three ways:

    1. A text message from school
    2. An email via news@pilsleycofe.derbyshire.sch.uk
    3. A message on the school's Facebook page

We will repeat these communications on each subsequent day of closure. Please note, occasionally there can be difficulty in utilising one of the communication methods listed above, so we advise parents and carers to check more than one.

If we do have to close school during the school day, we will alert you to this via the same means listed above. If your contact numbers or email addresses change, please let us know so we can update our system.

Thank you for your continued support and we hope that these measures will rarely be necessary.

    Best wishes,

    Mrs E Bond

    Headteacher

  • Children in Need 2023

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

Thank you for all your help with our Children in need appeal. We raised a really impressive £147 from our bake sale and non uniform day!

  • Newsletter 10.11.2023

    Fri 10 Nov 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you've all enjoyed a lovely half term break. This term promises to be a busy one in the run up to Christmas!

    Y3 and Y4 Dodgeball tournament

Yesterday afternoon, Mrs Dey and I took the Y3 and Y4 children to a dodgeball tournament at Bakewell Junior school. The children competed with 16 other teams from local primary schools. Although we didn't win overall, our school was awarded the school games trophy which was given to the school who had impressed the coaches the most with their honesty during each match. As always, we were very proud of the sportsmanship, respect and skill which all the children demonstrated at the tournament. Well done everyone and keep up the great work!

    Remembrance

This morning in collective worship, the PRAISE team led a special input on Remembrance. This was particularly poignant for the older children as the Y5s and Y6s had visited the Imperial War museum in Salford yesterday as part of their current topic work. There are services of remembrance happening on Sunday in our school playground at 10.15am, at Edensor church at 10.50am and at Beeley church at 3pm which you are warmly invited to attend.

Children in need- Friday 17th November

On Friday, we are inviting the children to come to school in non-uniform for the day with a suggested £1 donation, payable via Parent Pay, in order to raise money to support this year's Children in need appeal. We will also be running a bake sale after school on Friday in the hall. We would welcome any donations for the bake sale to be brought into school on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning please. Many thanks.
