Newsletter 12.05.2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Y6 SATs week

The Y6s have had an incredibly busy and tiring week sitting their SATs tests in reading, mathematics, spelling, punctuation and grammar. The children should feel very proud of the way in which they have approached these statutory tests with such maturity, positivity and confidence. I am extremely proud of every single one of them and know that all the other staff who work closely with the Y6s feel exactly the same.

Mrs Field has worked tirelessly to ensure that the Y6 children have felt as prepared as possible for this week. I know how genuinely grateful each of the Y6s are to her for giving up so much of her own time to offer personalised feedback and additional booster sessions which have supported them with any gaps in their understanding.

The Y6s would like to say a huge 'thank you' to all the staff who have helped them get through this week and to all the other children in the school for their kindness and consideration during what has been a very challenging week. The Y6s all loved receiving their 'Leavers' hoodies' after their final maths paper today and Mrs Field, Mr Sparks and Mrs Dowding treated them all to a game of giant frisbee in the fields at the top of the village before lunchtime which went down very well!

We hope that a weekend of rest and relaxation (and perhaps even a treat or two) lies in wait for them all as they have worked so hard ðŸ™‚

Y3 and Y4 Tennis tournament at Baslow

A huge 'well done' to our Y3 and Y4 children who really did us proud at the cluster schools tennis tournament yesterday afternoon. The weather was very kind and despite the heavy rainfall all morning, it stayed dry for us for the majority of the afternoon. The event was a mixture of skills and games as well as a team tournament against other local schools. Special congratulations to Daisy, Charlotte, Holly and Patrick who represented Pilsley in the tournament and finished as overall runners-up!! Brilliant work, everyone! ðŸ™‚ There is a flyer attached to this email with details about tennis coaching in Chesterfield for anyone who is interested.

Y6 Bikeablility- Friday 19th May

A reminder that the Y6s need to bring their bikes and a cycle helmet to school on Friday 19th May to complete their Bikeability training. Please leave bikes on the playground at morning school drop off time- thank you.

Y5 and Y6 Cricket tournament

Class 4 are going to the cricket tournament at Youlgrave on Thursday 18th May. The children will be taken there and back on the school bus. We are asking for voluntary contributions on Parent Pay towards the cost of transport which has risen considerably recently. The children should be back at school by 3.15pm so please collect them from school as normal. Any children who usually go home on the school bus/623 bus will be able to use this service as normal.

Mrs Townsend

As some of you may know, Mrs Townsend has been off work ill since the beginning of December last year. This week, she is returning to work on a phased return. I know the children are really looking forward to seeing her again and welcoming her back into the classroom.

Class photographs

On Monday 22nd May, Tempest photography will be in school to take class photographs.

Every good wish,

Mrs E Bond
