Welcome to Bolton Abbey Class
Hello and welcome to Bolton Abbey Class!
Our class is made up of 11 fabulously hard working Year 2 children and 8 super Year 1 children.
We have great fun learning and growing together in our welcoming, vibrant and stimulating learning environment. Our teachers, Mrs Bond and Mrs Anderson and teaching assistant Mrs Smail, take great care of us each day and plan exciting, purposeful and challenging learning linked to creative topics that we love!
We will keep you updated with all our fantastic learning so keep visiting our page!
Second half Spring Term
This half term we are following a cross-curricular topic called 'Towers, Tunnels and Turrets'.
See the castle ahead? Get ready to invade its mighty walls! Shoot a projectile with an archer's aim! Head across the drawbridge, over the moat and up to the top of the tower...
We will be visiting a castle and finding out about the features that kept the castle inhabitants protected from their enemies.
Meet Rapunzel who lives in a tall, tall tower. Through our literacy work we are going to be looking at Fairy Tales and adventure stories and writing some of our own.
We will be looking at the work of artist 'Paul Klee' and using his picture 'Castle in the Sun' to inspire our own castle paintings.
Spring Term -
This term our topic is going to be Superheroes.
We are going to be finding out about Superhero characters, reading comic style texts and learning to make our own comic strips.
We will be thinking about what makes a superhero. We are looking at superhero powers and the responsibility that comes with power. We will also be creating our own superhero characters and thinking of the powers it might be useful to have.
As part of this topic the children will be designing superhero masks, logos and outfits ready for a superhero party at the end of the half term.
In Science we will be designing tests to find out if any of us have super senses or can jump super far or run super fast.
In Personal Social and Health Education we will consider the skills and talents that make each of us super in our own way. We will also be making some dips and smoothies to keep us super healthy.
Through this topic we will considering real life heroes such as people who work helping others in emergency services or through charity work and think about historical superheroes such as Florence Nightingale.
If your child would like to bring in any appropriate toys, books, comics or costumes to share with the class then we would be very pleased.
Thanks for your support.
