What an exciting place class 3 has been at the start of this week. Monday saw the arrival of our 5 neon tetras class fish in their beautiful new fish tank. The class voted to purchase a class pet using the money raised by our enterprise project.

There is so much to learn from the five smallest members of Class 3 and learning to care for a pet is an excellent life skill. The week then got even more exciting when the Pilsley Duck egg incubator arrived. We are enjoying being visited by the other classes and there are already many 'chirpy' noises coming from them.

We are looking forward to seeing the new ducklings very shortly.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

It seems such a long time ago now, but we hope you enjoyed the Easter break. It's been lovely to hear all about what the children have been doing during their holidays.

There was a lot of excitement this morning during Collective Worship when our ECO Team announced that we would be hatching some duckling eggs this week! The eggs are arriving tomorrow and are due to hatch on Thursday. We're really looking forward to the whole experience and are sure the children will learn lots and take away some lovely memories! We will keep you updated later this week!

It was great to welcome Gordon Montgomery from Oundle School and the Y5 children from Baslow for a special KS2 mathematics master class on Friday morning. The children were amazed by the mathematical tips and tricks and they all really enjoyed the roadshow. There will be photographs appearing on the school website very soon if you'd like to take a look!

The Y2, Y3 and Y4 children are off to the summer sports festival in Youlgrave on Thursday afternoon. We're really hoping the weather picks up by then as it doesn't exactly feel like the weather for summer sports!! 😬 The children need to wear their PE kit for school and bring a water bottle and waterproof coat with them please.

We are taking the children there and back on the school bus so pick up arrangements should all be as usual. The end of day school bus may be running a few minutes later than usual but will run as planned.

The PTA are holding a second-hand uniform sale on Friday after school. If the weather is dry, the sale will take place on the playground but if not, the sale will be downstairs in the toddler room instead.

    All best wishes,

    Mrs E Bond

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Hockey

The Year 3 and Year 4 children played brilliantly at the Hockey tournament in Tideswell yesterday afternoon despite the cold weather! We entered two teams into the tournament and one of our teams won all three games in their group, making it through to the semi-finals! It was a very close match with one of our goals not being picked up by the referee (where's VAR when you need it?!) meaning we lost 1-0. There was some great encouragement shown by our children towards the other teams too, cheering them on and showing excellent sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. Well done everyone!

    Clarinet workshop

Class 3 have been to Buxton this morning to play alongside some other schools in a wind instrument workshop. The children were accompanied by a band from the Peak District Music Centre during the morning and it was great to listen to clarinets, trumpets, trombones and saxophones being played in unison! Great job, everyone!

    Class 3 International Schools link

We are working to develop our children as global citizens and help them think about how we can look after our world. As part of this work, the children in Class 3 have been involved in a very exciting international project. They have had the opportunity to develop a partnership with a school in Quito, Ecuador. Class 3 have written letters to say 'hello' to their new friends in Quito and enjoyed sharing stories about their school and community.

We are excited to announce that we will be bringing the two classrooms together virtually and are thrilled to be meeting our friends from Quito next week! Class 3 look forward to gaining a deeper understanding of different cultures, lifestyles, and global issues as this project progresses. We have included some samples of the letters that we've written from our display in case you'd like to take a look.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Chatsworth annual litter pick

The ECO team had fun litter picking on Tuesday morning as part of the annual Chatsworth litter pick. We walked a good three miles during the morning and took a route from the estate office to Baslow, collecting two bin bags full of rubbish on our way. The team did so well and it was great to see them taking part in such a good cause to keep our local environment free of litter and looking tidy.

    Lyceum theatre trip

Yesterday, we took all our junior children to the Lyceum theatre in Sheffield to see 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'. It was a poignant, thought provoking and very clever piece of theatre and the children were enthralled throughout the show. Our Y5s and Y6s have recently read the book so it was a fabulous experience for them to see this being brought to life through theatre. As always, it was a pleasure to take the children out on their trip and they were a credit to our school.

    World Book Day

What a brilliant atmosphere it has been in school today to celebrate World Book Day! The creativity of the children's costumes was amazing and they've taken part in some lovely book related activities during the day. Thank you for all your support with making today really memorable and special for the children! Next Friday (15th March), we have arranged for a travelling book fair to visit school at 3.15pm (flyer attached) so do come along after school and see what's on offer. All books are reasonably priced at £2.50 each.

    Ashgate Hospice TractorFest 2024

From mini tractor driving to antique tractors on display, a family fun day is returning to Derbyshire this spring – and kids can attend for FREE!

Tractor Fest will take place on Sunday 28th April from 10am until 3pm at the Storforth Lane Trading Estate in Hasland, Chesterfield.

There will be a huge collection of tractors on display as well as fun activities, including mini fire engine rides, soft play, a climbing wall and more.

The event, which is organised by Ashgate Hospice, costs £3 for adults and is free for children under the age of 11.

Jack Wood, Deputy Director of Income Generation at Ashgate Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be bringing Tractor Fest back to Chesterfield this April.

“Last year was a huge success and we were proud to welcome so many families from across Derbyshire.”

All proceeds from Tractor Fest will help fund vital care for patients and families who need the care of the hospice.

The charity must raise £9 million each year so it can continue providing palliative and end of life care to people across North Derbyshire.

Any owners of tractors or other farming vehicles who would like to showcase their vehicles are invited to contact the hospice directly to arrange this.

  • Letter from Damian Hinds, MP

    Published 27/02/24

We were delighted to receive a letter in the post this morning from Damian Hinds MP, who is the Minister for Schools. It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of all our children and their hardworking attitudes as well as all our staff who work so hard to achieve the very best outcomes for our children. To be placed in the top 1% of primary schools in the country is a real team effort from parents, children, staff and governors and we are incredibly proud of what we've achieved so far and we will continuously strive to ensure our children leave primary school at the end of Y6 both happy and well equipped for secondary school.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Please find a letter attached to this email regarding World Book Day which we are celebrating on Friday 8th March.

The children really enjoyed tuck shop yesterday breaktime! Thank you to Bex Vardy for sponsoring this month and if you would like to sponsor a tuck shop this year, please speak to a member of the PTA.

Just a reminder that jewellery is not permitted to be worn for school, as part of our uniform policy. We do allow small stud earrings to be worn for those children who have had their ears pierced but earrings either need to be removed or covered with plasters or tape, which are supplied from home, for PE lessons. The children have all been reminded this week about not wearing jewellery or nail varnish for school but your support with this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

All children going to Young Voices need to meet outside school on the village green on Monday 19th February at 1.25pm please. We will take the Young Voices t-shirts with us on the bus so if the children could wear dark trousers/leggings and trainers with their Pilsley school hoody or jumper, that would be great. A reminder that the children will need to have had their lunch before they meet at school and please remember to send a drink and a packed tea with them in a named bag.

We hope you have a great half term and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 26th February 2024.

    All best wishes,

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you so much for supplying the oranges for our Christingle service yesterday. There are photographs on the website for you to see and the PRAISE team did a fabulous job of leading the service for us. Our nursery children joined us too and really loved the singing!

A separate email was sent out yesterday to all our families who are attending the Young Voices concert in Sheffield next Thursday. A reminder that if you have any questions about the event, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

The NSPCC have asked us to share this with you.

We are happy to be able to share our FREE workshop for parents and carers about keeping children safe when gaming

This year, the NSPCC launches its first Game Safe Festival. We're bringing together key players to make sure children have positive gaming experiences. And we're helping the adults in their lives have the knowledge, confidence and tools they need to help keep children safe when they game.

The free workshop will take place on Zoom on Wednesday 7 February 2024, 7-8pm. The attached flyer provides information about the session and how to register for it.
