Eco-School
Eco Committee
Our Eco Committee are made up of children from Year 2 to Year 6 who take responsibility for spreading awareness within school and our local community on ways to help our environment.

At Pilsley, our children don’t just learn about making a difference — they lead it. Pupils play an active role in shaping the future of our school. The Eco Committee meets regularly and gives children a powerful voice, sharing their peers’ ideas and leading positive change to help our school stay environmentally friendly. Eco councillors also lead collective worship and support community events — inspiring others and showing that even small actions can make a big difference.

As a team, we work hard on a variety of different projects.
Some of the work we have completed over the last few years have been:
|
Pre-loved book sale DCC recycling workshop and van RSPB Bird Watch Making bird feeders Planting bee friendly flowers Seasonal planting around school Pumpkin competition Chatsworth country fayre Making bug homes Fairtrade Fortnight Earth Hour Plastic Free July Litter Picking- Chatsworth annual event |
-
Raising awareness: The Eco Committee lead regular assemblies to raise awareness of issues and inform pupils of the work they are undertaking.
-
Energy: The Eco Committee have ensured that classrooms in school have posters and signs reminding / pupils and staff to turn off electrical devices when not in use.
This year, our Eco Committee has centred its work on two key themes: Biodiversity & Nature and Global Citizenship. These focus areas have guided our projects and discussions.

Global Citizenship

We are proud of our strong partnership with the British School in Quito, Ecuador — a national leader in sustainability and climate action. Their commitment to environmental stewardship has inspired us from across the globe. From Meat-Free Mondays and the creation of a thriving bee garden, to the installation of solar panels and their innovative Botellas de Amor recycling initiative.
