What are we learning this term?

Spring term 2026

Frozen Kingdoms

Welcome to the planet’s coldest lands. Vast wilds and hostile territories; incredibly beautiful, yet often deadly. Take shelter from the elements or fall prey to icy winds and the deepest chill. Trek bravely and valiantly across treacherous terrain to the ends of the Earth, treading deep in snow or being pulled by a team of mighty sled dogs. Be alert, for magnificent mammals roam these lands, sometimes hungry or fresh for a fight. Perhaps a hungry polar bear or an Arctic fox is hunting rodents, as swift as the wind. Research facts and figures of climate, temperature, habitats and ecosystems, and compose evocative poems about the Northern Lights.

This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, and includes a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them.

Autumn term 2025

BRITAIN AT WAR

This project teaches children about the causes, events and consequences of the First and Second World Wars, the influence of new inventions on warfare, how life in Great Britain was affected and the legacy of the wars in the post-war period.

Imperial War Museum

We had a great day at the Imperial War Museum, North.

The museum taught us about World War 1 and 2 through interactive activities and genuine artefacts. The children were excited by the tanks, planes and barrage balloons and were humbled by the extraordinary stories of people who had experienced wartime.

We became journalists and documentary makers around the museum, and were awed by the interactive films and poetry.

Meeting a war veteran

We learnt about life with a guide dog when we met a war veteran on Remembrance Day.

Learning from primary sources

We were able to explore photographs, medals and other artefacts from one of our children's great and great-great-grandparents who served in the First and Second World War. A huge thank you to Mrs Bond's mother for coming in to talk to us about her father and grandfather's time in the wars and share their moving stories with us.

Enterprise Scheme

We have been making Christmas goodies to sell at our stall to help fund our class activities and resources.
