Nursery and Reception
At Pilsley Nursery and Reception, we provide a rich, nurturing, and stimulating environment designed to help every child reach their full potential. We offer a happy, safe, and caring space where children feel secure and build firm foundations for their future learning. We encourage independence and confidence, supporting children as they explore, discover, and make meaningful connections. With thoughtful guidance, we help them develop language, deepen understanding, and grow as curious, capable learners. Each child is cherished, respected, and treated as an individual.
Our Nursery and Reception class is led by an experienced teacher with a team of dedicated, highly qualified professionals who are very skilled at working with young children. We greatly value your role as your child’s first educator and believe that by building a strong, positive partnership with you and your wider family, we can fully support your child’s development. Staff are always available to discuss your child’s needs at the beginning and end of each session. If you require further information, you are welcome to make an appointment with Mrs. Anderson, our Foundation Stage and Key Stage One teacher and coordinator.

The children have access to spacious classrooms with carefully zoned areas designed to promote exploration, discovery, and purposeful play. We also provide a secure outdoor area that encourages children to investigate the world around them in greater depth. Outside, children can enjoy our mud kitchen, a loose‑parts play area filled with open‑ended building materials, trikes, and opportunities for water and sand play. Thoughtfully planned enhancements support and extend learning, and children engage in appealing, cross‑curricular topics that help deepen their understanding of the world. Whereever possible, learning is adapted and tailored to suit individual interests.
The nursery and Reception children at Pilsley spend some of their time playing and working alongside the key stage one children, through a carefully designed curriculum designed to meet the needs of all learners. The classroom learning environment feels like a family. Our carefully planned curriculum allows every child to learn at the right level for them, supported in small groups by skilled and nurturing adults. Older children model language, behaviour and confidence, while younger children benefit from rich play, strong role models and a secure sense of belonging. This approach creates a calm, inclusive and stimulating setting where every child can thrive, grow and make excellent progress.
Forest School Sessions

We strongly believe that children should have daily access to outdoor learning. As well as accessing our beautiful school field and dedicated outdoor early years space, each week, the children take part in Forest School sessions in the nearby Pilsley woodland, where they explore the natural environment, learn new skills, discover the creatures that live there, and further develop their physical abilities. These experiences nurture curiosity, confidence, and a genuine love of learning.
We look forward to welcoming your child to Pilsley.
